Shawl designing…

By

shawl_swatchingOver the last year or so I’ve slowly become obsessed with lace. I have made the Elizabeth Zimmerman Pi Shawl, which is a round shawl. I have also recently finished my first triangular shawl; the Aeolian. I really enjoyed them both. There is something very satisfying about working with such delicate patterns and creating something so beautiful.

I always have several pattern designs floating around in my head. Usually they are patterns for socks, longies, or toys. Relatively simple projects. Recently though I’ve been obsessing about creating my own lace shawl. I even have dreams about knitting it.

I’ve been spending less time on the computer this last week while I’ve been drawing, sketching, swatching, and making notes. I have finally settled on the lace pattern. I love this very open style of lace. When I look at it, I see bees. Including their little stingers.

My brain has often become overheated during this process but in the end, I am sure that it will be worth it.
